- ➤ The Tommy Bohanon Foundation will host its sixth annual Softball Tournament and Toy Drive on Thanksgiving weekend at the Northwest Cape Coral Softball Complex starting at 8 a.m. on Nov. 29, where teams can register for an entry fee of $500 — or $350 worth of new toys per team — with donations helping local families in need. - ➤ State leaders discussed a proposed base rate settlement for Florida Power & Light that will raise power bills by about $2.50 starting next year. - ➤ On Friday, Cape Coral Technical College updated its expansion work as block walls are nearly complete—forms and casting beds are set for future concrete tilt-wall pours. - ➤ Today, strong east winds and rising King Tides make the seas dangerous and cause coastal flooding along Florida’s coasts, as a low pressure system in the Gulf plus a cold front from the north keep small craft advisories in effect. - ➤ Today, the Fort Myers Beach town council approved rebuilding the 1,000-foot long and 12-foot wide pier that Hurricane Ian destroyed in 2022 plus the new structure will include elevated walkways, lighting, three shade structures and a fish cleaning station with more than $11M from Fort Myers Beach and about $17M from Lee County, and work will require state approval with contractor monitoring of sea turtles. - ➤ Anita Cereceda, Jane Plummer, and James Boan were reappointed to the Local Planning Agency on Monday for 2-year terms after a public vote by the Town Council—Council members John King and Karen Woodson voted against Cereceda by choosing Ed Schoonover, who did not get enough votes. - ➤ Today, the Fort Myers Beach Town Council unanimously approved a new contract with The Vose Law Firm to raise legal fees from $25,000 to $37,000 per month, or $450,000 per year—after the firm reported saving the town over a million dollars in litigation costs. Beach Talk Radio
- ➤ U.S. government lawyers say detainees at Alligator Alcatraz likely include people who have never gone through removal proceedings — a finding that contradicts Governor DeSantis’s claim that every detainee already has a removal order. Civil rights groups are seeking a preliminary injunction to let detainees meet privately with attorneys as lawsuits over their rights move forward — a step that may alter the center’s operations.
