  • Sisters Paula Colose and RoseAnn Cutler from North Fort Myers have moved into a new home after Hurricane Ian left them with a ruined house and a scam by a vanishing contractor — Lee Cares provided temporary shelter and help to rebuild their life as Lee Commissioner Brian Hamman handed over the keys.  ABC7
  • Today, Cape Coral Police Department will host its third National Night Out event at Cultural Park from 10 a.m. to noon to build trust between officers and residents—attendees can enjoy games, music, raffles and a chance to meet school resource officers.  Cape Coral Breeze
  • Foster Village SWFL will open a new Cape Coral HUB on Oct.18 at 1510 SE 41st Terrace to help foster children and families get supplies and a safe place to meet — this is the non-profit’s first center in Lee County after serving hundreds in Collier County. Community members are invited next Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to visit the center and learn about available support services.  Cape Coral Breeze
  • Cape Coral Animal Shelter will host its 9th annual Golf Classic on November 8 at Palmetto-Pine Country Club to support care for homeless animals; the event aims to raise more than $25,000 for daily shelter services and a planned expansion — it will feature on-course games, raffles, gift bags and a special prize package.  Cape Coral Breeze
  • Cape Coral Bike Night changed its parking rules for the 2025‑26 season by ending motorcycle parking on Southeast 47th Terrace for safety reasons and reopening the Iguana Mia lot as The Great American Show Bike Arena, which debuts today from 5 to 10 p.m. – the event will feature live rock music, food and vendors and draws about 15,000 people.  The News-Press
  • Cape Coral Bike Night returns today at 5 p.m. at Southeast 47th Terrace and features live music, the Slow Bike Race at 8 p.m., and local vendors.   • United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades will kick off the 2025-26 campaign on Oct. 29 at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall in Fort Myers with networking at 8:30 a.m. and a program at 9 a.m.+ Local leaders and businesses will come together to support the campaign’s goal of $11,512,716 and give a chance to win staycation prizes for donations of $240 or more, with all funds benefiting over 90 local partner agencies.  Cape Coral Breeze

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Support personnel for the School District of Lee County got a new deal after the School Board approved a collective bargaining agreement for fiscal years 2026, 2027 and 2028 and the union ratified it. Their pay will rise with a 3% cost-of-living increase and salary compression adjustments — changes that will show on the Oct. 31 paycheck and be retroactive to July 1.  Cape Coral Breeze
  • Lee County Schools received a $301,600 donation from the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation to support on-site childcare centers and enhance programs in math, reading, science, Career and Technical Education and JROTC—also helping with new teacher training and College Night events.  WINK News
  • At Tuesday’s Lee County School Board meeting, district officials said over 2,500 bus riders still arrived late despite improvements in on-time arrivals, and they are increasing substitute driver numbers and reviewing transportation options—working with local law enforcement, Cape Coral police, and other partners to reduce delays.   • Cape Coral middle schooler Dominic Maldonado earned the national Artist of the Week title when his drawing 'Half Draw' of his pet dog Coco received more than 1,300 votes on Artsonia. His win brought him a $50 gift certificate while his teacher April Gibson praised the program for spotlighting student art.  The News-Press

  • Tickets are fast selling for Premier Mobile Health Services’ Speakeasy Casino Soirée, a Roaring Twenties event on Nov. 1 at DoubleTree by Hilton at Bell Tower in Fort Myers that will offer live entertainment, casino games, a silent auction, dancing and a 1920s feel—helping fund mobile health clinics. Tickets cost $125 and include heavy hors d'oeuvres, two drink tickets and gaming vouchers to support care for patients in Lee and Collier counties.  North Fort Myers Neighbor
