COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rising living costs and a lack of affordable housing have forced more older adults into homelessness in Southwest Florida, with shelters like St. Matthew’s House now housing nearly three times as many seniors as in 2022. Former tech professional Doreen Wall, once earning a six-figure salary, now stays at the shelter and is applying for jobs while urging others to plan ahead for hard times.  WINK News
  • South West Florida Horse Rescue was founded in 2010 by Tina Garrett and Matt Venaleck to help abandoned horses by working with the sheriff’s department and providing vital care at their 40-acre facility near Babcock Ranch. They held a charity golf tournament on Oct. 14 that raised $18,700 and will host fundraisers (a quarter auction, a chili cook off, and a wine tasting) to support the 21 horses currently in their care.  Cape Coral Breeze
