- ➤ Chicken Salad Chick in Fort Myers, Estero and Port Charlotte announced children can eat free until SNAP benefits are restored—children must dine in the restaurant to receive a free kid's meal with no purchase necessary. Fox 4
- ➤ The causeway boardwalk at Lakes Park reopened on Tuesday after summer repairs — restoration continues on the splash pads damaged by Hurricane Ian. The News-Press
- ➤ Florida families are worried as SNAP benefits run out this weekend for 3 million people due to the federal shutdown, so local food banks like Community Cooperative in Fort Myers are serving more people than usual. Community Cooperative held an emergency meeting and will add extra mobile food distributions next month at Boys and Girls Clubs in Lee County—aiming to help those who fear hunger. ABC7
- ➤ Fort Myers Beach now offers free non-motorized wheelchairs for residents and visitors with mobility challenges; the chairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis and can be reserved Monday—Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a valid ID required and funding provided by the Lee County Tourist Development Group. - ➤ Lee Memorial Auxiliary marked 75 years of service when 30 local women, known as the Pink Ladies, began raising funds for Lee Health in 1950, and the group has since supported patient care by providing services and organizing community events. Today the group, which now includes auxilians and student volunteers, has contributed over $11.5 million to hospitals through its Bright Ideas Gift Shops and special sales—solidifying its role in local health care. - ➤ Parents of six-year-old Gavin, who drowned at a Whiskey Creek home on October 26th, told Fox 4 they will use his memory to fight for autism awareness and water safety—aiming to protect every child from similar tragedy. Fox 4
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A Lee County teacher at Island Coast High School worked under the influence of cocaine and let students vape in her class after a Feb. 13 drug test, prompting the district to file a petition for her termination and suspend her without pay. She will have a termination hearing on November 4—district officials stressed that law enforcement was not involved despite the serious misconduct. WINK News

- ➤ Keep Lee County Beautiful, Inc. held its Monofilament Madness cleanup event on Oct. 25 where over 100 volunteers removed fishing line, Styrofoam, netting and other debris from the Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve and Fort Myers Beach.
