  • Veterans Day weekend offers events across Southwest Florida — a celebration in Estero on November 9 from 10 a.m. to noon with patriotic performances and free food, a parade in Cape Coral from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. honoring American heroes, a Military Night tailgate and hockey game at Hertz Arena beginning at 5 p.m., and a Marine Corps 250th Birthday celebration in Fort Myers starting at 6 p.m. with a screening at 8 p.m. to honor local veterans and active military.  Fox 4

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A brewery from Buffalo will open a 25000 square foot taproom and restaurant near Lee Health Sports Complex in south Fort Myers early next year—its venue includes a full-service restaurant, an outdoor beer garden and two bars with indoor and outdoor seating while a rock climbing gym is built next door to add a fitness option.  The News-Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Alliance for the Arts is hosting a weekend of free film screenings at the Art House Cinema starting Thursday, November 13 to honor artist Robert Rauschenberg and celebrate local creativity. The events feature a 7 p.m. screening of Taking Venice on November 13, a Family Movie at 12 p.m. on November 15, Bittersweet Muck at 2 p.m. on November 16 with a Q & A, and a Mystery Movie at 7 p.m. on November 17 & seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis with concessions for sale.  Florida Weekly
  • Today, WINK Stop featured a new TV show (Jimmy on the Rocks) about perseverance that was filmed at Dixie Roadhouse in Cape Coral with the pilot episode completed. More episodes will be produced soon and reporter Bianca Smith will share local stories each weekday morning.  WINK News
  • Gulf Coast Village and North Fort Myers Art Association have marked one year of their art partnership by displaying residents’ work in community spaces. They will debut a new exhibit called Celebration! on November 19 from 2 to 3 p.m. — a program that also features a vacant building turned into The Art House for art classes and community events.  Cape Coral Breeze
  • Alliance for the Arts will host a town hall on Nov. 12 at the Collaboratory in Fort Myers —focusing on local arts, community collaboration, art education, artist empowerment, and special projects—. The free event will feature panel discussions and a Q&A session led by local arts leaders.  WGCU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lee County Schools presented a revised student enrollment process for the 2026-2027 school year Tuesday — the plan adds middle school options with new K-8 schools in Cape Coral and North Fort Myers and revises rules for sibling placement and application waivers. The changes will adjust student distribution and transportation provisions as the district prepares for the upcoming year.  Cape Coral Breeze
  • On Tuesday night, the Lee County School District approved a new contract with the Teachers Association that provides teachers with up to a 7% raise and a nine-minute longer school day starting in fiscal year 2026. The deal includes added benefits such as (up to 20 days) of paid parental leave and aims to fill 20 teacher vacancies to boost retention.  Cape Coral Breeze
  • Florida SouthWestern State College will host a day-long series of educational panels and a live Holocaust survivor talk to commemorate Kristallnacht on November 10 at its Lee Campus in Fort Myers—community members may join in person or virtually to engage with this important historical event.  North Fort Myers Neighbor

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • RSW travelers face potential delays as the FAA began cutting flights by 4% at 40 major airports on Friday due to the government shutdown. Flight cuts will rise to 10% by next Friday—impacting flights from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.—and officials advise checking connections and booking direct flights.  WINK News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Smiles for the Community event is scheduled for Nov. 15 at Lee Dental Care on 3436 Cleveland Ave—registration opens at 7 a.m.—and will offer free dental fillings, extractions, or cleanings to the first 200 patients.   • FGCU women's basketball coach Raina Harmon is ready for her team's home opener today at Alico Arena against Davidson — the squad includes returning players and seven newcomers aiming to continue the winning tradition that earned eight straight ASUN titles.
