  • The community will celebrate at Lighthouse Island Resort's Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration on Friday, Dec. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the resort’s waterfall pool area in Fort Myers Beach, featuring Santa, the Grinch, festive music, and a Holiday Gift Drive benefiting the Beach Kids Foundation.  WGCU
  • Calusa Harbour Senior Living held its 'Cheers to 45 Years' gala on Nov. 20 at 2525 First St. to honor staff, residents, and community partners, celebrating over four decades of care along the riverfront (a treasured local milestone).  The News-Press
  • Planning consultants will present trail route options for a new North Fort Myers path at a meeting on Dec. 9 at North Fort Myers Recreation Center, where community members can ask about linking the Caloosahatchee Bridge sidewalk to paths on Littleton Road & Kismet Parkway reaching Punta Gorda.  WGCU

CULTURE NEWS

  • Holiday boat parades will light up local waterways this season. The Fort Myers Beach Boat Parade will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 from Salty Sam's Marina + decorated boats, led by Santa and Mrs. Claus, will complete two scenic loops along the shoreline.  The News-Press
  • The Lee County Community Band will perform its free 'Celebrating Holidays Around the World' concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, at Mariner High School in Cape Coral (701 Chiquita Blvd) where over 60 volunteer musicians will play classic carols and global holiday tunes for all ages.  WINK News

  • Neighbors at Veterans Park Academy say drivers routinely speed on Homestead Road South during the busy morning rush, nearly hitting pedestrians. Since August, the sheriff’s office has held eight special operations — issuing 44 citations and 77 warnings — while residents push for a daily deputy to help protect children.  WINK News
  • This week, Fort Myers Beach Town Council reviewed a proposal for a wave mitigation wall along Times Square that may cost around $1.35 million and reduce hurricane damage (details provided by engineering firm J.R. Evans under a $60,000 consulting contract).  Beach Talk Radio
  • Lee County commissioners approved animal control rules that set a 24-hour hold for stray cats and small animals — including a new Find My Pet Portal. Supporters see this as a step forward while some say enforcement may fall short.  The News-Press
  • Motorists who pass a stopped school bus will receive a citation by mail starting Dec. 8 under the School District of Lee County’s new BusPatrol program that uses cameras on over 600 buses — images are reviewed by the sheriff.  Cape Coral Breeze

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lee Health now offers histotripsy, a noninvasive treatment using focused ultrasound waves — not incisions or heat — to break apart liver tumors while sparing surrounding tissue. This FDA-approved option gives patients who are not eligible for traditional surgery a new local cancer care treatment.  ABC7
