COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The annual Fort Myers Beach Christmas Boat Parade took place on Dec. 6 as 40 decorated boats illuminated the water. The awards party will be held Dec. 11 at Marina Cantina with free entry for participants & $5 for guests.  The News-Press
  • The Fort Myers Woman’s Community Club hosted the Holiday House at the historic Langford-Kingston Home on Dec. 4 and led a Holiday Stroll by decorating multiple sites on Dec. 3, partnering with the Uncommon Friends Foundation to brighten the season & celebrate local spirit.  The News-Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Players Circle Theater on McGregor Boulevard hosts 'Ho! Ho! Ho! The Christmas Show,' a festive musical revue with 36 classic tunes performed by a cast. Conceived by Robert Cacioppo — written by Ted Wioneck III — the show runs through Dec. 21 and provides families with a magical holiday treat.  ABC7
  • WGCU earned two Suncoast Emmy Awards for its reporting in Southwest Florida In Focus and Reflections of a Colored Girl & the wins affirm its commitment to local storytelling amid budget cuts. The station will expand its daily program and documentaries in winter to serve local audiences.  WGCU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City of Palms Stadium, closed since 2012, is set to be fully demolished after a report warned that keeping any part would be too costly and block future redevelopment. City officials will gather demolition proposals and hold a final vote soon, with work expected to finish by yearend (salvaging historical pieces).  WINK News
  • Today, Lee County begins a safety program that will fine drivers $225 for illegally passing stopped school buses. The school district has partnered with the Sheriff’s Office and BusPatrol to install cameras on buses that capture violations.  ABC7

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Dec. 8, the Florida Department of Health reported a new case of Vibrio Vulnificus in Lee County, marking the fourth instance this year. Health experts advise anyone with open wounds to avoid saltwater exposure at Fort Myers Beach and to seek medical care if symptoms worsen.  NBC2
  • Lee Memorial Hospital and HealthPark Medical Center were named to Forbes' Top Hospitals list for 2026, the only Southwest Florida hospitals included, as they earned a 5-star rating using nationally validated measures of patient outcomes and quality care.  WGCU
  • Sunshine Ace Hardware’s customers have donated spare change to Children’s Miracle Network since 2019 — raising $500K for pediatric care and helping local families secure better health services.  Florida Weekly
