COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lehigh Acres residents raised concerns during a community meeting as new development has increased traffic and accidents, prompting calls for more stop signs and better sidewalks. The sheriff’s office said it will boost patrols (to improve pedestrian safety).  WINK News
  • Coral Ridge Cemetery in Cape Coral will host a Wreaths Across America ceremony tomorrow at 11 a.m. as volunteers place wreaths in the Veterans Honor Garden to honor fallen service members—additional ceremonies are set for Horton Park, Eco Park and other local cemeteries.  Cape Coral Breeze
  • The Cape Coral Fire Department is hosting its annual holiday toy drive to help families in need in Southwest Florida. Donations are welcome at any fire station until Dec. 15 (drop-offs after the deadline are also accepted).  WINK News
  • The 8th annual Christmas Tree Festival hosted by the Woman’s Club is taking place at Margaritaville Beach Resort tonight and tomorrow. The event includes a VIP cocktail preview at 4:30 p.m. tonight and a vendor market and Chili Tasting and Cook-Off on Saturday, with all proceeds benefiting local nonprofits.  Beach Talk Radio
  • Roberto Clemente Park reopened after extensive renovations that include a 21-foot playground slide, funded with $1,375,000 in city funds plus a $1 million state grant. State Rep. Jenna Persons-Mulicka and local officials say more upgrades, including a new amphitheater, will come soon.  WGCU
  • Since 2018, Celia Rubin’s Mr. Lucky Dog’s Sanctuary in Alva has cared for 37 senior and hospice dogs that are unadoptable, relying on donations + fundraisers to cover their special needs while facing a major funding shortfall for next year.  The News-Press
  • Today, the Florida Everblades host their annual Teddy Bear Toss at Hertz Arena in Estero — fans will toss new teddy bears after the first goal to benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital and other local hospitals.  ABC7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Edison and Ford Winter Estates will mark the 50th Holiday Nights with thousands of lights and guided tours from Nov. 28 to Jan. 4, open 5:30-9 p.m. The in-house team begins planning in January and installs the displays in October — they rely on a donated lift for tall palms.  The News-Press
  • Wicked Dolphin Distillery in Cape Coral will host a holiday party on December 18 at 5 pm, inviting guests to bring lawn chairs, Santa hats and enjoy free distillery tours, tastings, and festive drinks made with local rum & bitters.  WINK News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Six mega-projects are transforming southwest Florida with a new Lee Health hospital and Amazon robotics facility in Fort Myers, an expanded RSW terminal, Cape Coral's Yacht Club rebuild, a groundbreaking Kingston development, and Collier County's diverging diamond interchange on I-75 — all set to be completed in coming years.  The News-Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Barbara Rebeor, science department chair at Harns Marsh Middle School, was named a Department of Defense STEM Ambassador for the school year 2025 to 2026 after a competitive national selection process that recognized only 30 educators. She will work with STEM leaders + share best practices at upcoming conferences.  WINK News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials in Fort Myers said the former spring training home for the Red Sox will be demolished after an engineering study found restoration would be very expensive; they plan to seek demolition proposals plus preserve select historic plaques at a future council meeting.  WGCU
  • Lee County announced its holiday schedule for several services. Trash collections will occur Dec. 24 and Dec. 31, while offices, bus routes, pools, and libraries close on Dec. 25, 26, 31 and Jan. 1 (with alternative service days planned).  ABC7
