- ➤ Florida Repertory Theatre offers The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge, a holiday comedy in which Scrooge sues Jacob Marley and ghosts, at the Historic Arcade Theatre in Fort Myers until Dec. 21 with tickets starting at $69 for adults, $15 for students (family deal available for $150). ABC7
- ➤ Jingle and Jam transforms Peace River Gardens into a festive winter wonderland for families this weekend — the event features Santa’s Workshop, live music, holiday treats and an art exhibit for a unique holiday experience. WINK News
- ➤ This weekend — festive events take place across southwest Florida. Fandom Fest runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fort Myers Regional Library, the German Christmas market opens at noon in Cape Coral, and the 36th Annual boat parade begins at 6:15 p.m. in Naples Bay. Fox 4
- ➤ The Battle of the Arts will be held on Dec. 19 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in front of the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center as a live painting competition kicking off the Southwest Florida Mural Festival, with a post-competition party featuring live music, food, and performances. - ➤ The Geminid meteor shower starts today at 9 p.m. in southwest Florida with peak activity from midnight to 2 a.m. Sunday when up to 150 meteors per hour may appear, and conditions will be partly cloudy and dry with lows in the 60s. ABC7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Town of Fort Myers Beach launched its new $121,000 boat for code enforcement and canal inspections, replacing an older vessel that was stolen last year and recovered last September – the recovered boat is now being repaired for potential future service. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Dr. David Hill from the American Lung Association warned that flu, COVID-19, and RSV cases may surge this winter due to increased holiday travel, echoing concerns from last season when over 1 million were hospitalized — urging those 65 and older to get vaccinated. ABC7
- ➤ Lee Health President Dr. Larry Antonucci announced he will serve until Sept. 30 even though he will not renew his contract— the board will begin its search for a new president next year. WGCU
- ➤ Lee Health is building a new central medical hub in Fort Myers on 53 acres, with foundation work planned for this summer and completion set for summer 2028 so patients can move in by fall (costing nearly $824 million). WINK News
- ➤ Lee Health President and CEO Dr. Larry Antonucci announced he will not renew his contract when it expires on Sept. 30, 2026 (he plans to remain active in community healthcare advocacy and mentoring) to ensure a smooth leadership transition. WINK News
