  • Friends and family built a new memorial at the (Cantor Lane and McDaniel Drive) intersection in North Fort Myers to honor 17-year-old Nikola Knight, who died in November saving a family from a mobile home fire; Superman figures now surround a tree stump to show his brave sacrifice.  ABC7
  • Local teens are bringing holiday cheer to area nursing homes for the third year by singing, dancing, and baking over 100 cookies for residents (a festive program that spreads joy across the community).  The News-Press
  • The Porsche and Friends Parade featured 195 Porsches and exotic cars as part of its ninth year celebration, raising $469,800 to support the Golisano Children’s Hospital Surgery Center.   • A bicyclist (a witness reported) was hit by a sedan at Sunshine Boulevard and Fourth Street West in Lehigh Acres today, and residents are urging officials to add speed bumps and boost road safety as the Florida Highway Patrol investigates the accident.  ABC7

  • Sweet Tomatoes Salad Buffet will soon reopen at its S. Tamiami Trail location in Fort Myers as renovations progress, and the updated eatery aims to welcome local diners with new options.  The News-Press

  • Tonight, downtown Fort Myers will host its first public menorah lighting at Common Ground Pocket Park from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. — the start of Hanukkah that shows Jewish pride and brings neighbors together.  WINK News

  • Lee County schools launched their 'Unplugged' campaign to limit technology during classes; students now turn off phones and store them in backpacks—an effort to boost face-to-face interaction and critical thinking.  ABC7

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lauren Coughlin and Andrew Novak won the Grant Thornton Invitational at Tiburon Golf Club on Dec. 14, earning each a $500,000 paycheck in a record-setting performance. They finished 28 under par and led the field by three strokes.  The News-Press
  • High school football fans in Fort Myers can expect an eight-team Open Division bracket from the FHSAA in 2026, with a theoretical ranking by USA TODAY Florida Network suggesting top teams like St. Thomas Aquinas, Cardinal Mooney, and Raines.   • Lauren Coughlin and Andrew Novak won the Grant Thornton Invitational at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples on Sunday, Dec. 14, finishing at 28 under. The mixed-team event featured 16 pairs competing for a share of a $1 million prize + a $4 million purse.  The News-Press
